Extracting Brushes in Illustrator

You can extract illustrator artwork from a brush set, which is pretty handy if lose the original illustrator file you created it from. To do this you need to select a shape and add a brush set to it.

Now go to the 'objects menu' (at the top of the screen) and select 'expand'.

Keep everything ticked, and press ok, this will now break apart the illustrator brush, but it still keeps the elements grouped together, so we need to ungroup them. Again in the objects menu select ungroup, this will break apart the brush allowing you to select single items.

You can also drag an Illustrator brush from the brushes menu, simply click and hold on the brush you want and drag it onto the document.
